Hostels in London
This booklet gives details of our recommended hostels (over 170) in
the Capital. Updated every year, it covers general hostels (aimed
at low paid workers and students). Foyers (housing and training centres).
Supported housing schemes (for those needing additional help). It
also has sections suited to women in emergencies - such as escaping
abuse at home. Also emergency 'direct access' hostels for women finding
themselves literally roofless. The price is £4.00 to agencies
but is free for anyone looking for accommodation.

London Budget Accommodation Guide
This guide is aimed at single people on a low budget giving information
about cheap housing. Whether you are looking to find a place to rent,
live in a housing co operative, housing association (including low
cost home ownership schemes) this guide is invaluable. There are sections
specialising for students, keyworkers and also for lesbian and bi-sexual
women. It also lists area price comparisons by renting and purchase
prices. Cost £3.00 to organisations and free for anyone seeking
housing.

Accommodation Guide for Women in Prison and Ex Offenders
This booklet, also updated regularly, has practical information for
those who have a conviction. They can be in custody or on probation.
As well as basic legal rights and welfare benefits information, it
details housing and schemes available to assist such women re establish
herself. There is also information on counselling, workshops, job
search and training schemes. Also, due to the link between misusing
substances and crime, there is a section on agencies assisting people
to overcome drug and alcohol dependency. Price £1.00 to organisations
but free to anyone personally needing it.

Housing and Practical Help for Women Needing Support
This is a self help booklet with information on services as well as
accommodation for women who are juggling with issues needing specialist
help. Such women can be in emotional or mental distress (including
illness). They can be finding that their use of drugs or alcohol has
become out of control. It also has a section on day centres in London
- geared at homeless women who may need practical help with health
and diet. It gives details of suitable and supportive housing projects.
Also, health and counselling/therapy, social services and emergency
survival contacts. Price £1.00 to organisations but free to
anyone personally needing it.

Housing and Practical Help for Older Women
Leaflet giving details of a number of housing associations that cater
for those aged mid 50s plus. Also, a listing of hostels which do accept
women up to the age of 60. Useful welfare agencies assisting with
information for carers, culturally targeted services and the abuse
of older people.

Information for Lone Parent Families
This is a signposting leaflet for those looking after children on
their own. Women's Link does not work with families due to the statutory
duties on local councils, we still continue to get many enquires from
lone parents needing additional support and advice. Details of voluntary
groups giving welfare help to families in bed and breakfast hotels.
Also, legal, welfare benefits, social work and self help group contacts
- including some very locally based. There is a list of mother and
baby homes geared to very young mothers working with social workers
to improve parenting skills. There are a few housing co operatives
listed catering for independent lone parent families.

Information for Women Experiencing Domestic Violence
The leaflet puts into context what is abuse at home. It gives emergency
contacts - such as safe houses 'refuges'. It also gives a brief summary
of how the law and police can protect women going through this. There
are a number of women's agencies offering support, counselling and
welfare help to help women get through the initial experience. Also,
the longer term 'fall out' of the trauma associated with being degraded
and humiliated through violence and mental cruelty. Some services
listed are local, whereas others are London wide. Agencies helping
particular ethnic and nationality groups can provide culturally sensitive
support.

This booklet contains housing information including hostels and supported
housing for black and ethnic minority women. Other sections include
housing information for refugees and asylum seekers and housing information
for lone parents.
